RALEIGH (December 9, 2013) – As the clock ticks down to the December 13 deadline for a Congressional agreement on the Federal budget, now is the last best chance to include new tax revenues, replace the devastating sequestration cuts, and craft a budget deal that doesn't grow poverty and inequality.
The Budget & Tax Center, Working America, and AFL-CIO will host a press conference on Wednesday, December 11, to address the vital need to prevent a second round of sequestration cuts in 2014. The groups will call on North Carolina's federal delegation to support efforts to replace cuts with new revenues through closing corporate loopholes before the federal budget deadline on December 13.
"Congress has one last opportunity to prevent damaging cuts to investments in 2014 that help struggling families and a struggling economy," said Allan Freyer, Policy Analyst with the Budget & Tax Center, a project of the NC Justice Center. "We are calling on North Carolina's federal lawmakers to do the right thing and support closing corporate tax loopholes so that we can make the investments needed to support North Carolina families and end gridlock on the federal budget."
The event will be held at the Government Plaza at 110 S. Green Street in downtown Greensboro. Speakers from the Budget & Tax Center, AFL-CIO and Working America will be available for media interviews.
