Special Campaigns
The Justice Center works in coalition with dozens of progressive organizations, locally and nationally, to advance issues that matter.
Current special projects highlight this type of coalition-based work:
- Together NC is a collection of more than 50 non-profit organizations, service providers, and professional associations who have come together to promote wise budget choices that will build shared prosperity for all. The coalition represents millions of North Carolinians.
- The NC Second Chance Alliance is a growing statewide alliance wants to make sure that the prison door isn't a revolving door, and in so doing build safer communities. The alliance promotes the safe and successful reintegration of adults and juveniles returning home from incarceration, calling on legislators to establish a study commission that examines barriers facing those who are formerly incarcerated or have criminal records.
Nearly 50 groups and a host of individuals have signed on to support the campaign. The NC Second Chance Alliance is composed of advocacy organizations, service providers, faith-based organizations, community leaders and interested citizens. The coalition includes the NC Justice Center, Community Success Initiative, NC NAACP, Congregations for Social Justice, ACORN and Passage Home.
- Paid Sick Leave – Some 42% of North Carolina workers get no paid sick leave. When sickness hits them or their loved ones, these workers are forced to stay home without pay – putting their financial well-being or even their jobs at risk – or go to work sick, send their children to school sick, or leave a sick loved one without the care they need. The Justice Center has launched a campaign to secure legislation that will guarantee reasonable paid sick leave for all workers. Learn more at www.ncsickdays.org.
