- Women and men in North Carolina have seen their unemployment double in the Great Recession.
- Women in North Carolina had an unemployment rate of 9.1% in 2010, up from 4.9% in 2007. Men had a greater growth in their unemployment rate, up from 4.2% in 2007 to 11.7% in 2010.1
- Labor force participation for both women and men declined over the same period such that the employment to population ratio for both women and men was at the lowest point since 1983 and 1979, respectively.
