RALEIGH (July 3, 2013) — In advance of the Fourth of July, members of Together NC, a coalition of 120 advocacy groups and organizations from around the state, will gather on the State Capitol grounds today, July 3, at 11:00 a.m. to deliver a clear message: paying taxes is patriotic.
The Senate will pass their tax plan Wednesday morning. The plan reduces available revenue by nearly $1 billion when fully implemented and puts the state's public investments at risk. Over the years, it is these investments in public education, infrastructure, and the health and well-being of families that have set North Carolina apart from its neighbors, a leader in the South.
As part of the press event, speakers will share analysis of the tax plan and present a petition — to be delivered to policymakers — signed by 7,000 North Carolinians who are opposed to tax cuts that will disproportionately benefit the wealthy and profitable corporations and shift the tax load to middle- and low-income taxpayers.
The event will also include an appearance by Russell the Public Investment Hound and incorporate a display of American flags and other patriotic visuals.
