STATEMENT: Signing of budget reflects a missed opportunity for North Carolinians

RALEIGH (July 11, 2022) – Today, Governor Cooper signed into law HB 103, the state’s budget. While there were much-needed increases in state employees’ and teachers’ salaries, additional funds for affordable housing, and critical investments in water and sewer infrastructure, we are disappointed in the budget’s failure to meet its constitutional obligation to public education.

In addition, notably absent from the budget was Medicaid expansion.

The General Assembly will be returning to Raleigh each month through the end of the year, and we hope all members will use those opportunities to work on passing the critically needed healthcare legislation and the additional constitutionally required spending for public education.
