Public Charge Rule: Getting the Help You Need // Carga Pública: Obtenga la Ayuda que Necesita

“Public charge” is used by immigration officials to decide whether a person can enter the U.S. or get a green card (lawful permanent resident or “LPR” status). In this test, officials look at all of a person’s circumstances, including income, employment, health, education or skills, family situation and whether a sponsor signed a contract (“affidavit of support”) promising to support the person. // Los funcionarios de inmigración utilizan el término “cargapública” o “prueba de carga pública” para decidirsi una persona puede entrara EE. In these times of uncertainty, many people are saying that immigrants should get documents to protect them in case they cannot stay in the U.S., to help them manage their financial and family affairs.
