North Carolina’s unemployment insurance system provides workers who are involuntarily unemployed with some of the security needed to rebound and seize new opportunities. By temporarily replacing part of the wages lost by individuals who are involuntarily unemployed, North Carolina’s unemployment insurance system provides working families with a modest level of economic security and stabilizes local economies during economic downturns. The system also helps unemployed individuals find work, collects key labor market data and finances the state’s Worker Training Trust Fund.
